If you want to work for yourself you will need to set yourself up like any self-employed person, with regards to insurance, book-keeping for tax purposes, publicity, etc.
If you want to work with others you may find the contacts you need, and develop the necessary skills, through local workshops and training centres.

- Be realistic - about what you can offer (skills level, transport, musical ability, etc), and what you would need to sustain you in the relevant work conditions
- Be organised - about equipment, costumes, training equipment, DVD auditions, etc
- Be prepared - insurance, staying fit and healthy, passport, etc
- Take out Public Liability Insurance
- Learn about contracts, and what constitutes a binding agreement - letters of intent, etc
- Check your position with regards to Tax and National Insurance Contributions
- Consider membership in a professional body, like Equity.
