CHINESE POLE ARTISTS WANTED

Avant Garde Dance are holding auditions for Chinese pole artists, with hip hop dance ability preferable, to join their show 'The Silver Tree' for a number of dates throughout this summer 2010.

Auditions to be held on the morning of the 16th February.

The Silver Tree is a fusion of Hip Hop and the art of Chinese Pole performance which unites to create a rhythmic feast of movement and music inspired by the theme of caged birds.

The show is choreographed by Tony Adigun and produced by Remarkable Productions. Candidates would need to be available for the 16th-20th February and for tour dates through the summer.

Head of Training - Flying Fruit Flies

The FFFC is Australia's premiere Youth Arts company. In May next year we will be moving into our new custom build $4.8 Mio Circus training home. In this context we are intending to appoint a Head of Training and Master Trainer to work with us on the day to day training of our 90 full time students and nationally/ internationally touring productions.

The Flying Fruit Fly Foundation employs the Head of Training to fulfill a specialist role, for which experience at a national and/or international level is required. The successful applicant will specifically have extensive experience as a professional circus or physical theatre performer, trainer and/or Head of Training.

The Head of Training forms part of the management team of the Flying Fruit Fly Circus that includes the General Manager, Artistic Director, Production and Operations Manager, Finance Manager and Marketing Manager.

The Head of Training is responsible for all aspects of the student's training and fitness. They are responsible for managing the Training Department and overseeing the company's circus training and performance OH&S practices.

Working relationship:

    The Head of Training must establish successful working relationships with the:
  • General Manager
  • Artistic Director
  • Company members
  • Students and their parents
  • Network of industry contacts
  • FFFC School Coordinator and school staff
  • Senior staff at Wodonga Senior Secondary College

As a public face of the company they must also establish successful relationships with:

  • the wider contemporary circus community
  • key stakeholders in the wider community

Master Trainer - Flying Fruit Flies

JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Master Trainer will be expected to:
  • Teach a wide variety of students from beginner level to advanced levels in a comprehensive program of circus skills and techniques.
  • Develop effective training regimes for specific acts undertaken.
  • To teach and train these acts to performance level.
  • To teach a program that includes conditioning, stretching and safety relevant to the acts taught.
  • Participate in talent identification of young students and take part in audition processes.
  • From time to time, teach the other trainers employed by the Circus the skills and techniques required for them to maintain and develop the repertoire of skills and acts for the Circus.
  • To tour with the Circus within Australia and overseas as necessary.
  • To work to Australian standards in any rigging required in relation to the Master Trainer's teaching and touring, and will work within the guidelines of the Circus's Occupational Health and Safety Policy.
  • To design, make and maintain some equipment and props for the Circus, particularly the equipment required by acts that the Master Trainer is teaching. These props will remain the property of The Flying Fruit Fly Circus.
  • To utilise their international networks to introduce and/or suggest trainers to the Circus.
  • To acknowledge and respect the different cultural techniques of circus training.
  • To attend weekly Training Department meetings which are facilitated by the Head of Training.
  • To attend Company meetings.
  • To undertake other reasonable tasks as directed by the Head of Training.li>

    CRITERIA

    Essential skills

    The ability to work with young people including a clear understanding of the teaching techniques required for act development.

      A high level of tumbling knowledge and technique with a good understanding across a number of circus disciplines which may include two or more of the following:
    • Group pitching
    • Adagio/Acrobalance
    • Teeterboard
    • Cloudwing
    • Flying Trapeze
    • Static Trapeze
    • Chinese Pole
    • Handbalance
    • Manipulation
    • Juggling
    • Or comparable circus disciplines

    The ability to work as part of a team.

    An openness and willingness to share skills with existing trainers.

    Desired skills
  • Rigging.
  • Equipment and props making and maintenance.
  • An ability to work with our aerialists.
  • An ability to speak, or a willingness to learn, English.
  • Essential qualities
  • Ability to work independently but also to take direction.
  • A willingness to embrace the creative artistic process.
  • A willingness to embrace Australian culture.
  • Qualifications/experience

    A minimum of 10 years experience in the circus industry.

    Other requirements
  • The Master Trainer will have a valid passport or other formal Department of Immigration documentation during the period of employment with the Circus.
  • The Master Trainer will declare prior to the commencement of employment if there are any known encumbrances that would prevent the Master Trainer from gaining entry to any other country.
  • The Master Trainer will be required to make a declaration of any chronic injury that would stand in the way of the applicant being able to fulfil the requirements of the position.

    Auditions for Circus Gerbola

    2010 Season (Feb — Oct)

    This small traditional family circus was set up in 2001 and is run by proprietors Mikey and Tara Gerbola who come from a long line of circus families.

    Recently they have received Arts Council Funding for the development of their shows.

    The 2010 show is inspired by Moulin Rouge.

    Auditions are in Bristol on November 27th. 11.00 — 2.00 at Circomedia, Portland Square, Bristol BS2 8SJ

    We are looking for high quality, family, duo and solo acts (in a range of skills) and clown, with artists who have a flexible approach to their work.

    Previous experience of working in a touring circus is not essential but artists must be able to commit to the full season.

    Circus Gerbola tours mostly in Southern Ireland, two and three night stands, with three, one week long stands in the major cities.

    Pay is relative to quality and experience.

    NoFit State casting new performers

    NoFit State are looking for highly skilled multi talented new performers to collaborate on future projects. NFS wishes to develop a new language of circus designed for theatre venues that reflects and builds on the company's unique relationship with audiences and pushes the boundaries of what is creatively possible.

    The first stage of this journey is a training and creative development laboratory (NFS Lab) aiming to explore skills, approaches and creative concepts for translating circus to a theatre context through a series of workshops with directors and practitioners from other performance disciplines.

    The company will be creating a new show for theatres early in 2011 and is beginning a development process which includes some professional development opportunities for performers.

    NoFit State Circus Opportunities to be involved in new project

    Commissioned by the Without Walls initiative, NoFit State will be launching 'Parklife' at Stockton International Riverside Festival at the end of July 2009: an extended creative conversation between artists and creative community groups to research and develop a new language of outdoor circus performance.

    'Part playground, park bandstand, NoFit State takes the tent off its circus and invites you to join them in a joyful exploration and celebration of the secret life of public parks. For 5 days, they will be resident in the park, running a programme of workshops, rehearsals, performances and happenings in collaboration with local creative groups and members of the passing public. From impromptu whistling workshops and live music jams to bicycle ballets and displays of extreme sports, there will be plenty of opportunities to get in on the act as Britain's leading contemporary circus company launches the first phase of its exciting outdoor circus initiative.'

    There are opportunities for eight emerging circus artists and creative dance / music / live art practitioners to join this process and gain experience of a working on a large scale collaborative circus project. We are particularly interested to hear from people who are open to collaborative working practice and engaging with communities. You will need to be

    Job Description: Swamp Circus Trust currently has a verity of volunteering opportunities available, these range from the opportunity to assist with workshops to office based positions including opportunities to get involved in setting up new community projects. We are also looking for experienced professionals to join our board of trustees. Volunteers 16 -26 also have the opportunity to get involved in our Activate programme, take part in accredited arts award training alongside their placements.

    Even if you only have 1 or days available we'd love to hear from you. As we move into 2009 Swamp Circus Trust is in a strong position to grow it's Community sector and continue to raise the charity's reputation for it's commitment to arts based community cohesion and regeneration.
