SEEKING SPARE CIRCUS EQUIPMENT FOR NEPAL CHILDREN’S REFUGESky and Mark are raising money to buy equipment and set up a permanent circus space for Nepal's most vulnerable children. They are going to Nepal in August 2010 to work with the Esther Benjamin Trust to create a circus area to be accessed by all the children that the charity supports. The trust provides full time residential care to 140 ‘at risk’ children, some of who have been trafficked (including into circuses) or displaced. They hope to create a circus space to be accessed by all the children that the refuge support including children from the slum areas and children with special needs. Many of the children who have been rescued from Indian circuses were very mistreated and had very traumatic experiences. However they developed lots of circus skills that they are proud of and some will be able to take of the role of trainers for other children. Equipment that they want to gather includes:Trapezes, Silks, Ropes, Harnesses, Juggling Equipment, Hula hoops, Skipping Ropes, Trainer stilts, Non-dynamic low stretch abseiling ropes, Carabiners, Slings, Grigri’s, Stops, Costumes… and anything else you can think of! So dig deep into your cupboards and pull out all those bits of kit that are gathering dust (second hand equipment is fine, but please only contribute equipment that is totally safe). The equipment needs to be gathered by the end of July so please get in touch with Sky on 07886 517959 or at skyneal@live.com to donate. If you would like to make a monetary donation to the cause please visit this website (please note that all donations are entirely for the charity and do not cover any of our personal expenses).
