Opportunity to deliver aerial or parkour-inspired performance on board a Tall Ship

We have an opportunity, and £6.5K, to present an aerial or parkour-inspired performance on board a Tall Ship, either the Earl of Pembroke or the Phoenix, during Liverpool’s On The Waterfront maritime weekend this summer, creatively produced by Walk the Plank on July 17th and 18th.

We are looking to animate the vessel with movement/dance/aerial work in and around the rigging of the ship while it is berthed alongside the Maritime Museum in Liverpool’s Albert Dock. The work may be an adaptation of existing choreography that you have developed for another context, or a development of an idea that suits this particular setting.

We imagine that the performance would take place several times over the course of the weekend, during the daytime. The audience would be located on the quayside, and we imagine that a several hundred people would gather to watch each time.

We would provide a PA on the ship, which would only arrive in Liverpool two days before the event (and as with all things maritime, subject to weather). This would mean that you only have one day rehearsal on board the vessel in Liverpool. You would therefore need to visit the vessel in advance in Charlestown in Cornwall, and be prepared to turn up and work with minimal amount of rehearsal on board the ship itself. Access to the ship for rehearsal elsewhere in the UK on its summer schedule might be possible but would need to be the subject of further negotiation with Squaresail Ltd, its commercial owners.

Square Sail will also need to approve the proposed content and method of delivery.

The performance might also include choreographic work on the deck, using semaphore flags for example; and we would expect the fee to cover all your costs, except for the provision of PA, dressing rooms and stewarding.

If you have ideas or existing work that you think would fit within these constraints then please send us an outline of your proposal, with images or information about your company that you think would be useful in our discussions with Liverpool .

We are looking for expressions of interest by April 12th, with proposal by April 30th.
