The BA Street Arts DegreeThe BA Street Arts DegreeThe BA Street Arts Degree at the University of Winchester (the first of its kind in the UK) started in 2009 and is now approaching its second intake of students. The students learn through making performances, creating and producing their own events and productions and through researching and critically reflecting on the roots and practices of contemporary street arts practice. Within the programme and in partnership with the International Winchester Hat Fair, the students perform at festivals here and abroad whilst studying in the programme and developing a portfolio of work as emergent artists and companies in front of creative producers and festival organisers. They spend part of their degree in overseas exchanges especially in Spain and France. We are especially interested in attracting performers and artists that have had some experience in the sector or would like to explore making exciting and innovative outdoor performances. These students may also be interested in developing their skills in creative production as well as being performers. We have students already on the course that run their own companies and that have professionally trained in circus, clowning and carnival arts. The students come with a wide variety of interests that range from street dance, puppetry, circus arts, parkour, street music, magic and film. There are a number of students that have come from a visual arts background following a strong tradition of established existing street arts practice. The programme helps the students develop a wide range of digital skills that fits easily with their role as contemporary street arts practitioners. Within the University, the programme can offer extensive resources... We have attracted the best teachers, creative producers and some of the best practitioners to teach on the course. We intend to be performing in China and Mexico in the coming year.
